Deep Things: The Missile That Ends Wars

From the archive — August 2019: “Deep Things: Forgiveness is the missile able to destroy wars & unite enemies for peaceful living.”

Missiles destroy — that is their nature. But notice the target: not people. Wars.

Forgiveness is the one weapon that destroys the conflict and spares the combatants. What a missile!

The arsenal you are stocking

Most of us stockpile the opposite: the record of wrongs, the rehearsed confrontation, the cold silence. Those weapons work — they wound. But they never end the war!

Only forgiveness does that, because only forgiveness removes the fuel. How long will you keep funding a war that is draining your own peace?

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” — Ephesians 4:32

Forgiveness is a command, not a mood

“Be… forgiving.” The verb does not wait for warm feelings. Feelings follow obedience far more often than obedience follows feelings.

Do you want to feel like it first? You may wait forever. Obey first — and watch your heart catch up.

The measure is received, not deserved

“Even as God… hath forgiven you.” You forgave nothing to earn God’s pardon — so extend the same mathematics to others.

The moment you calculate what someone deserves, you have abandoned the verse. Did YOU deserve it? Then release them!

You are still invoicing someone

Name the debt you keep re-presenting. Unpaid invoices accrue interest — and who pays it? YOU do, in peace. Cancel it today.

And hear this: forgiveness is not the same as trust. Forgiveness releases the debt; trust is rebuilt through repentance and time. Scripture commands the first and counsels wisdom on the second. Don’t withhold one because you are wisely pacing the other.

Launch it

The 2019 note ends where Scripture ends: peaceful living. Not the peace of victory over an enemy, but the peace of an enemy become a brother — or at least, of a war YOU refused to keep fighting.

Launch the missile. End a war this week. Yes, you can!

God bless your peaceful living.
