How Did I Get Here? The Path I Never Should Have Taken

The path I never should have taken.

It all started with just a thought

It all started with just a thought of it — as if it could never be formed in me, since I had vowed never to belong to it, and had boasted that I can never be its victim!

However, to my little surprise, this thought began to come to my mind, as friends kept preaching: “It does not hurt if you try.” It only took but a moment to notice that I was in — already! Well, it seemed not to hurt anyway. After all, I am not the only one involved — just to clear my guilt.

How did I get here?

But little by little, I moved further into it, and soon became the ruling King in it. But wait a minute — HOW DID I GET HERE?

It seemed to me that this thing was killing me, yet I found no reason to turn back and repent. It just killed someone’s vision and reality — but I laughed and said in my ignorance, “He doesn’t know how to adapt to it!”

When conscience woke up

Time passed by, and my conscience began to prick me — like hell just opened its consuming doors against me for the first time!

Now, I’m curious to know what will become of me, because it seems my life is wasting away into eternal damnation. The same thought that began the change from my former self is now hitting hard on me — and now I want to change, but it seems there is no going back to my better self, because this thing has taken hold of me.

A slave to a bad habit

I used to think I was in control — but now I realize that I have become a slave to a bad habit. “Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin” (John 8:34) — and now I know it by experience!

I repent and repent and repent — yet nothing seems to change.

I cried out for help, but it seems like everyone else has their own secret battles. But I have gone too far!

I prayed, and people prayed for me — but it only lasted for a few weeks, and I am back to my Master Habit.

Is this how a bad habit in sinful flesh can change one’s destiny in such a short time?

One hope left

Now I am full of regrets, and have only one hope left: to trust in Jesus Christ for my salvation. And I hope that my faith fails me not!

O, this is the path I never should have taken! It has eaten me up, spoilt me, disgraced me, and made my vision of no effect.

If this cry is yours…

If you find yourself a slave to bad habits — smoking, drunkenness, fornication, masturbation, lesbian, gay, procrastination, etc. — then this cry is yours too. But hear me: the same Jesus I now trust for my salvation can break your chains today! Don’t wait until the habit finishes its work — turn back NOW, while mercy still calls!
